Patient:  W. S.

"After medical consultations and research on my own, I decided that it would be in my best interest to have my prostate and the cancer removed from my body. Having had major surgery before, I liked the idea of the more accurate and minimally invasive robotic surgery procedure. I chose D. Champ Weeks, MD for the robotic surgery at Multicare’s Tacoma General Hospital. My hospital stay of less than two days and my short recovery allowed me to be active and return to light-duty work in ten days after the surgery. After three months, my urogenital functions are better than before the surgery, after all-no more enlarged prostate. Delicate nerves were spared and the typical problem of incontinence, which improves daily, is nearly nonexistent. For me, the major surgery turned out to be a minor inconvenience. I highly recommend the robotic procedure for prostatectomy."

Patient: R.R. 60 years old

When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer my initial reaction was “surely not me, this happens to other people…but not me”. Well reality sunk in after 20 or 30 seconds, and I faced reality. I had five options to consider. Watchful waiting; hormone injections; exterior beam radiation therapy; radioactive seed implantation or robot assisted radical prostatectomy (sp). I did as much research as I knew to do each step along the way leaning toward prostatectomy. I also conferred with numerous other people in the medical community. Finally… realizing that with this procedure the cancer would be out of my body…rather than treating the cancer, leaving it in my body. I wanted it gone! I like also liked the idea of the da Vinci prostatectomy due to the fact that it is minimally invasive as opposed to the traditional surgical method. After much consultation I chose Dr. Champ Weeks to perform my operation, and a date for surgery was set (July 24, 2006) at Tacoma General Hospital . Dr. Weeks sent me home a day and a half following the surgery and I was subsequently back at work on a limited basis the following Tuesday. One week post surgery I had little or no problem with incontinence. To date it has been a little more than two months since my procedure, and incontinence is no longer an issue. Dr. Weeks was able to spare the delicate nerves around the prostate gland during surgery so that impotence is not an issue either. I strongly recommend Dr. Champ Weeks as a physician and surgeon, as well as the da Vinci Prostatectomy procedure.
